HRT Update – Month 27

Yesterday marked 27 months since I started HRT. Let’s discuss what has changed in the last month.

What has changed this month?

Well, all I can say is this month things have slowed down. This is normal during your HRT journey. For example, in month 26 everything was going at full speed but this month it’s all stopped.

Don’t panic though; things will eventually return to normal.

How does this effect your mental health?

When I began HRT it affected my mental health. I wondered if I’d done something wrong or if the medication had simply stopped working. However, this isn’t the case. Now over two years in, I simply accept it as part of my journey and know things will improve eventually.

Just don’t let setbacks like this get you down. It might take a month or six months but eventually things will start to change for the better. Just don’t give up.

Other things that have helped me.

This month I had to visit Vision Express to get new glasses. My eyesight has been affected by HRT, which for some people improves vision but for me worsens it.

The staff at Vision Express were incredibly compassionate, respectful and used my correct pronouns without me needing to correct them. This was a first for me with complete strangers and it really boosted my confidence.

My friends have also been incredibly supportive. I have a close-knit group of friends who treat me just like any other girl. Their unwavering support is invaluable when HRT’s effects wane for a while.

Conclusion

All I can advise is when this happens, and it will happen, don’t panic. Things will get better. Just trust the HRT and your body, and concentrate on things that make you feel better.

Don’t get disheartened, everyone goes through this during puberty, which is what HRT starts off, again.
