Why Pride Month Matters More Than Ever in 2026

Today starts the happiest month for me, Pride ! ! So here I am wishing everyone a very happy and safe Pride month.

This Pride Month is more important than ever.

With the LGBT+ community under attack from all angles, this Pride Month is more important than ever. While Pride is a celebration of our community, it is also a protest. Although we have been here since the beginning of time, the modern LGBT+ movement was started at the Stonewall Inn, New York, on June 28, 1969, when police raided the pub and sparked a riot started by Stormé DeLarverie, Sylvia Rivera and Martha P. Johnson. Scott Campbell carried the movement forward by organising more protests.

Today Pride is about reflection, about standing up for our rights as LGBT+ people, and a celebration of our community.

EHRC Guidance

Last week, just before parliament went into recess, the EHRC released there long awaited guidance after last year’s Supreme Court ruling that the word sex in the Gender Recognition Act 2010 means biology sex for the purpose of the act. As expected this has not clarified anything. After it was delayed thanks to being very transphobic, this new guidance is still transphobic.

Not only that it will affect ALL LGBT+ people, as they are trying to police gender based on looks. It is also very contradictory in what it advises. For instance it says public toilets should be used on a biology sex purposes, yet doesn’t say how that will be policed or even that you can ask someone what gender they are. They also advocate for a third toilet for transgender people.

This means butch women could now be refused access to the women’s toilets, and transgender people will have to use the toilet of their birth gender or the disabled toilets. I have used disabled toilets before and there is ALWAYS a queue for them, so this not only affects the LGBT+ community but the disabled community as well. This also makes it very unsafe for transgender people and butch women to use public toilets as transgender women are in the right risk category for sexual violence from cis men. Butch Women will now be in the same boat as transgender women, having to use the men’s toilet or the disabled one.

Call to action

Parliament has 40 days from the day of submission to challenge the guidance before it becomes law. This time runs out at the end of this month, our most important month for the LGBT+ community. So below there is a letter template that was written by a very good friend of mine to send to your MP to ask them to bring this up in the House of Commons and challenge this guidance before the 40 days are up. I IMPLORE ALL OUR ALLIES TO SEND IT IN TO THEIR MP.

Dear Title Last Name,

I am writing to urge you to oppose and reject the latest Equality and Human Rights Commission guidance regarding the transgender community.

The guidance is discriminatory in effect. By setting rules that single out trans people for different treatment in access to services, legal recognition, and protected spaces, it denies them the basic rights afforded to other citizens and institutionalises exclusion. Policies that restrict or condition access to healthcare, public facilities, or legal protections based on gender identity reinforce stigma, create barriers to essential services, and increase the risk of harm to an already vulnerable community.

I ask you to: 1. Publicly oppose any statutory adoption of guidance that treats transgender people as second-class citizens.   2. Insist on guidance that protects the equal rights and dignity of all people, including explicit safeguards against discrimination on the basis of gender identity.   3. Support measures that ensure access to healthcare, legal recognition, and public services without exclusionary conditions or disproportionate burdens.

Rejecting discriminatory guidance is not a political position but a matter of ensuring equal protection under the law. Please represent the principles of equality and non-discrimination by standing against guidance that excludes or marginalizes transgender people.

I look forward to your response on how you will act on this issue.

Yours sincerely,   Your name   Your address   Your email or phone — optional

They will not stop at the LGBT+ Community

If they can get away with doing this then they will not stop at the LGBT+ community. Just look at what’s going on under Trump in the US. At first they started with transgender people, now they are going after women’s rights and the immigrants.

The same people who are funding the far right movement in the US are also funding the far right hate groups here in the UK. They want to re-make both countries into there form of extreme Christianity, which I might add the vast majority of Christian’s do not support. We have to stop this now before it gets a lot worse, for all of us.

PLEASE SEND THIS LETTER TO YOUR MP AS SOON AS YOU CAN, THANK YOU
