About Me

Thanks for reading my blog. My name is Kira (I have changed my name legally), a Transgender Woman living in Lancashire in the North West of England, UK.

History of my journey to becoming Transgender Woman

I was brought up in the 1970s/80s when Section 28 was in force. Section 28 was a law passed by the then Conservative government that banned all LGBT+ subjects in schools. So even though I knew I was different at the age of 5 I did not know what I was.

Thanks to being in a religious family (I am adopted) I joined the British Army when I was 16 to get away from them even though at the time it was illegal to be LGBT+ in the Army at that time. I stayed there for 8 1/2 years. I had my first sexual encounter with a man while in the Army at the age of 20.

Since coming out of the Army I have had been in exclusive relationships with Women, although when single I did hook up with men every so often, I still to this day never been in a relationship with a man.

When my last relationship ended I came out as a Transgender Woman, as that is who I am. Since coming out I have never been happier in myself. Even some of my long time friends have said I have never looked happier than I do now. I "came out" as Transgender in February/March 2021. Started HRT in May 2024 after going private with GenderGP.

I am part of the local Labour Party, fighting for Transgender Rights in the UK. I have been to protests in Manchester, the Labour Conference 2022 in Liverpool and work in my local CLP to try and change Westminster to be more supportive of our basic rights as trans and non binary human beings.

Since January 2023 I am the LGBT+ Officer and Disability Officer for Blackburn Constituency Labour Party.

I was voted in again as LGBT+ Officer for Blackburn CLP in 2024. I gave up being the Disability Officer and it was taken over by someone else.

Although it has taken me a while since coming out to sort out my sexuality, which is different to gender, I class myself as anything. You don't need a label.

You can find out my full "coming out" story in this post.

Work Experience

As I have stated above I joined the Army when I was 16. I did this for 8 1/2 years before leaving and working for a software company.

I worked for the Software company for a few years before it got bought out then I did a few security jobs while I set up my own computer services company.

I did that for about 5 years before a company in Manchester bought my company.

I worked for the company in Manchester for around 10 years as a senior systems administrator.  I stayed there until I got diagnosed with PTSD from my service in the Army.

While at the computer company in Manchester I passed multiple computer courses specializing in networking, mainly integrating Apple servers and clients with Microsoft networks, with courses up to and including MCSE on the Microsoft side (Windows 2000/XP, Small Business Server 2000/2003 and Server 2000/2003) and also ACA for the Apple side (Mac OSX Tiger/Leopard, Server and Client). They are old qualifications and way out of date these days.

I have been on disability ever since I got diagnosed.

Since June 2022 I have been a community news reader for TransRadio UK.
