Welcome to May’s edition of State Of The World. Let’s get started.

Supreme Court Ruling
The big news over the last month is the Supreme Court ruling in the Scottish Government vs For Women Scotland (FWS).
This ruling went badly for the LGBT community, not just the transgender community, as the court stated that the word ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010, the main bulwark law for the community, means biological sex.
Interestingly, not a single transgender person was involved in the court case as they were not invited to participate. Even one of the civil servants who was involved in creating the legislation of the law was not invited and later remarked that the Supreme Court has made a mistake.
There have been numerous protests about this ruling, and I have personally attended a few. The whole community has come together in support.
This ruling not only affects trans women but also trans men. The chairwoman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), the body that advises on all things equality in the UK, has stated that she will be pushing for transgender people to use the toilets that match their sex assigned at birth. This means that a transgender woman would have to use a men’s toilet, and vice versa for transgender men.
This is a massive step back for LGBT rights in the UK, similar in scope to what Section 28 was like
Park picnic for transgender people attacked
A picnic for transgender people came under attack by groups of young men who made threats and tore down Pride flags, according to organisers.
The attacks spoiled what had been a joyous Trans Picnic in the Park event in Platt Fields Park in Fallow-field, south Manchester, last month. Organisers described the incidents as a disgusting display of the impunity and hatred.
This is what all the hatred from the mainstream media has done. It needs to stop
Lesbian Congresswoman says she wants to impeach Donald Trump
Out Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT) has said she “absolutely” supports impeaching Donald Trump to a cheering audience. She also explained that voters shouldn’t get their hopes up that it will actually happen with the current Congress.
During a 14th April town meeting at the Bellows Falls Opera House in Rockingham, Vermont, a constituent asked Balint, “Do you support the concept of impeachment?” Balint responded, “Oh, my gosh, this is the most corrupt president we’ve ever had! Absolutely!” The audience of over 400 people erupted into applause.
If the House brings articles of impeachment against a government official, it can impeach the official through a simple majority vote. However, since House Republicans outnumber Democrats 220 to 213, it’s unlikely that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) would allow such articles to be formally introduced and voted upon.
Nevertheless, Balint expressed some hope that the Republican House majority might fracture if the Supreme Court hands down decisions against Trump’s actions.
If this happens, it can only be a good thing for the LGBT community around the world.
UK Local Elections 2025
The UK held its local elections last weekend. Unfortunately, Reform UK, the far-right party led by Nigel Farage, had a successful night, securing the most seats with 677 and gaining control of 10 councils. They also won a by-election in Runcorn and Helsby, bringing their total number of MPs in the House of Commons back to 5.
On a brighter note, the Liberal Democrats, the main left-wing party in the UK after the current Labour Party has moved to the right, also had a good night. Their number of councillors doubled to 370, up 167.
While Reform UK may seem to dominate the political landscape, it’s important to remember that they control only about 1% of the total councillors in the UK and only 5 MPs, which is a fraction compared to the 650 total.
You wouldn’t think this by the way the mainstream media is constantly promoting them, though.
