HRT Update – Month 16

Well, it’s been 16 months this week since I started HRT. A lot has changed this month, so let’s get into it.

Medication

I’ve switched from taking HRT patches to gel. While patches are fine, I dislike how they stuck to my body, the residue they leave behind, and the constant feeling that they’re going to fall off.

With gel, all I have to do is apply it once a day. The number of pumps is determined by your gender specialist (for me, it’s three). I wait for about 20 minutes, and that’s it.

As a gamer who plays Game of Thrones: Kingsroad every morning for daily tasks, I apply the gel while I’m doing it. Since it usually takes me about 20 minutes to complete these tasks, the gel has dried before I finish. It’s a nice and simple process for me.

I’m also taking progesterone now. I take it just before bed so it has time to work into my system.

What is Progesterone?

To put it bluntly, I went on progesterone primarily because of my breasts. One of my main dysphoria’s is my chest, and progesterone is known to boost breast growth by about 30%. This is an average across a recent study conducted in the Netherlands, although individual results may vary.

One side effect of taking progesterone is drowsiness, so it’s advised to take it just before bed.

Started going to the Gym

I have noticed very, very clearly the effect of HRT when I have started going to the gym. My strength is not there anymore. I knew I was weak before, as I struggle to open jars of jam these days, but I feel a lot weaker in the gym than what I used to before I started HRT a few years ago.

I am slowly getting more happy in my body. That can only be good a good thing.
