The US Elections
So unless you have been living under a rock recently the US election has happened and Donald Trump will be the new US President in January. What was you thinking the people of the US??
This is obviously bad news for anyone that’s not a CIS white male in the US, and for LGBT+ people generally in the world.
The Trump campaign ran over $120 million of Anti-LGBT+ ads during the election campaign, targeting mainly transgender people.
Not only that, as a convicted felon far right people are also now chanting “Your Body, My Choice” when it comes to Women, Trans or cis. In other words women do not have a choice now when it comes to Birth Control or Abortion, or who they have sex with.
There is also the troubling possibility that Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter/X, Space X and Tesla, will also be in the new Trump administration. The reason why this is troubling is because he owns Twitter/X, the social media Platform that is full of anti-LGBT+ people and has an outsize influence on world politics for some reason.
There was a few bright spots when it comes to the results, a few transgender people got voted into office including an Delaware congresswoman and a representative for Montana. Both happen to be part of the Democrats Party. Also almost all the Anti-Abortion votes that was run at the same time as the presidential election lost meaning Abortion will be available in a large part of the US.
Pray for our American LGBT+ and minorities people, they need all the help they can get.
What does this mean for us in the UK? Well there has already been some protests about women’s rights cropping up here. The Mainstream Media and the leader of Reform UK, Nigel Farage, also seems to be looking favourably to another Trump term in office.
We are lucky we just had an election that brought in a Labour Government which will last for most if not all of President Trumps last term in office. We can only hope that the current government will shield us from the worst of what is going to happen across the pond, but as we know, generally where America goes, so does the UK.
All I can say is stay safe these next 4 years, as after this next term in office Trump can’t run again. Unless he changes the US constitution.
Be thankful we have a Labour Government. I shudder what it would be like with the conservatives in power right now.
