HRT Update and the General Election Result

HRT Update

It’s been almost 2 months since I started HRT now and nothing has changed from the last update. This is to be expected as generally you don’t feel anything for between 3-6 months being on HRT.

The Labour Government

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few months, we had a general election where the Labour Party are now in government with a big majority. That means they can push anything they want through parliament. What does this mean for LGBT+ people and Transgender people in particular?

It’s a mixed bag. Ill break it down into the positives and negatives

Positives
  1. During the Kings speech yesterday they did mention, as promised in the Labour Manifesto, that they will be banning Conversion Therapy for everyone, including Transgender people.
  2. The post for running the EHRC (Equality and Human Rights Commission) is coming up in November. This is currently occupied by Baroness Falkner, who is in some people’s eyes (including my own) leaning on the gender critical side. Rumours are that the Labour Government will replace her with Harriet Harmon, who is a definite ally of Transgender people.
  3. They will not be changing the Equality Act at all.
  4. Annalise Dodd’s is the main minister for Women’s and Equality. She is an ally who I have personally met in 2022.
  5. Hopefully the culture wars will die down now we have a PM that will not use Transgender people as a political football.
Negatives
  1. Wes Streeting is the Health Sectary. Even though he is part of the LGBT+ community (He is gay) he has said some comments that has rolled back his views on Transgender people (Like regretting he said ‘Trans Women are Women’)
  2. The manifesto said they will implement the CASS report in full, even though it has been debunked as a political stunt by the Conservatives
    1. A similar study in Germany came to the opposite opinion to what the CASS report has said.
    2. Dr Hillary Cass, who wrote the report, Follows LGB alliance, Transgender Trend and other gender critical organizations on Twitter (now called X)
    3. Dr Hillary Cass also met with Ron DeSantis's people in Florida, who as anyone following US politics knows is a transphobe and has made Florida the worst state in the US to be a transgender person.
    4. Ignored 90% of studies into Transgender health care but used Reddit as a viable source.
  3. Wes Streeting has said the ban on Puberty Blockers for Transgender Kids will become permanent, even though it is still prescribed to CIS kids for precocious puberty (early puberty) with no side effects, and has been prescribed for decades. This ban covers both NHS and Private healthcare.
So as you can see, it’s a mixed bag. While I am happy that Labour won (After all, it was only ever going to be between Labour and the Conservatives) there has to be pressure inside the party for a change on transgender healthcare, especially for Transgender Children, as so far there has been 16 reported deaths by suicide of transgender kids since the conservatives brought out the ban on Puberty Blockers.
