Going Private for Gender Care in the UK - Month 1
Due to long waiting lists for getting Transgender Healthcare in the UK I have decided to go private next month.
I have been on the NHS waiting list for 3 years, and the GIS I am with, Leeds is still only seeing people that registered with them in April 2019. This is to long and is letting the transgender community in the UK down badly.I am going with GenderGP, which although there has been some bad news around this company in recent times I know someone who I am close to who is with them so I am going with them.
The form I had to fill in to start all this off was very complicated and I had to have a friend to help me with it. I have never been good with forms so Lisa, I know you read my posts, Thank you hunni, I know you know how much this means to me.
Here are the prices I have had to pay so far:
GenderGP Prices
- Setup Fee - £195
- Initial Assessment Fee - £65
- Monthly Subscription - £30
To be able to afford this I have had to sell some stuff that I hardly use, mainly my PS4 (Got it for Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, both games completed), my smart watch that was to "manly", a Nintendo Switch that I never used and my old gaming PC that was just gathering dust.
While if I didn't do this I would probably not have sold my PS4 (Which tbh was good timing as my cousins PS4 had broke, and I have an Xbox Series S as well, so sold it to him) the other 3 things I was planning on selling anyway.
My information gathering session, the initial assessment, is booked in for the 16th of this month.
Mentally, this is a very big relief. knowing that finally, after struggling with this for most of my life (I know something was different with me at the age of 5) and being out living as a transgender woman for 3 years that something is finally happening.
I will be writing a monthly blog post on how things go so hopefully this might help someone who wants to go private for HRT.
Thank you for posting this, I'm curious to read more as I'm possibly considering this option too.
