Living as a transgender person in the UK in 2024

So far, 2024 has felt worse than 2023 in regards to being transgender in the UK. Just going out and about I seem to be getting more and more stares and faces of disgust chucked my way. So far, no one has come up to me and said anything but it feels like it will only be a matter of time.

I think the main reason for this is the mainstream media never letting go of the constant transphobia they put out and the up and coming General Election. As Rushi Sunak clearly demonstrated on a recent PMQ’s the election is going to be fought on the “woke agenda”, whatever that is.

I also thought that the coverage of the murder trial of Brianna Ghay, may she rest in power, by the mainstream media, especially the Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph, was very condescending.

This is how bad it is, the mainstream media in the UK have put out 154 articles on trans issues every month for the past 7 years. That’s 13,500 articles covering a minority group of less than 0.5% of the population.

We get called all the names under the sun, when all we want to do is get on with our lives in peace just like everyone else.

Just today, I read of an article that a trans non-binary person in the US got beaten up so badly in school that they died the next day. The school did nothing for an hour after finding out. They was only 16.

It feels like the world is trying to make us disappear, even though we have been here for centuries. I recently read that an Egyptian Faroe, Hetshepsut, who was born in 1508 BC, presented as a Man and a Woman at times. We are here, we will always be here, and nothing can change that.

All I can say is hurry up the General Election. Not only has this current government put us in a recession and destroyed our economy, and our international standing, they are also tearing apart the social fabric of the UK.
