Section 28 and Equality Act 2010

What is Section 28? Section 28 was an oppressive law that was introduced in 1988 by the then conservative government of Margaret Thatcher. This is a brief description from Wikipedia :- “Section 28 or Clause 28 was a legislative designation for a series of laws across Britain that prohibited the "promotion of homosexuality" by local authorities. Introduced by Margaret Thatcher’'s Conservative Government, it was in effect from 1988 to 2000 in Scotland and from 1988 to 2003 in England and Wales. It caused many organisations such as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender student support groups to close, limit their activities or self-censor.” This is the reason why hardly any LGBT+ people trust the government and police. I have yet to hear 1 trans person saying this stopped them coming out as trans, only delayed them coming out. My history with Section 28? Although I knew something was different when I was the age of 5, I didn’t know what it was at the time. I thought, as I

The Stonewall Riots: A Turning Point for LGBTQ+ Rights

The Stonewall Riots were a series of protests and clashes that erupted in June 1969, after police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City's Greenwich Village. The raid sparked a violent resistance from the patrons and the neighbourhood, who had faced constant harassment and discrimination from the authorities. The riots lasted for six days and drew thousands of supporters, marking a watershed moment in the history of the LGBTQ+ movement. The bar was also a target for police raids, which were common and brutal at the time. The police would arrest anyone who violated the laws that criminalised homosexuality, cross-dressing, and gender nonconformity. The raids were often accompanied by violence, humiliation, and extortion. On June 28, 1969,

This blog post is all about facts. Some grim facts what LGBT+ people go through. All these statistics are from the excellent book by Juno Dawson - This Book Is Gay. One in six LGB people in the UK have experienced a hate crime or incident in the past three years. Young LGB people who are bullied are at higher risk of suicide, self-harm and depression. Forty-one percent have attempted or thought about taking their own life directly because of bullying, and the same number say they deliberately self-harm directly because of bullying. Forty-nine per cent of lesbian and bisexual girls report symptoms consistent with depression, compared to twenty-nine percent of gay and bisexual boys. One in seven gay and bisexual men (thirteen per cent) report moderate to severe depression, compared to seven percent of the general population. Within the past year, one in fourteen gay or bo men have harmed himself on purpose, this rises to one in five for gay and bi women. Young LGBT+ people are 190 percen
