Government wants to break the law regarding Trans Rights

There are 2 very disturbing peaces of "Government Advise" that are in draft stages that attack transgender rights in defiance of the Equality Act 2010.

First one is regarding Trans Kids and advise the government wants to give to schools. They want to force schools to out trans kids to parents over the child's wishes. This can be dangerous in a number of ways.

  • If the parents are not supportive it can lead to abuse at home and homelessness
  • This can also be very distressing to the child that can lead to suicide thoughts and more.
  • This will mean more trans kids will go into the closet and not talk to teachers about other things that they might want to talk about, as they feel they can not trust them. This will again effect the mental health of the child.
One of the hardest things you can do as a trans person, especially as a trans kid is come out as trans as you know you will be picked on, get abuse and a lot more. Currently the Government is taking legal advise on this as the Attorney General has stated this is illegal as transgender people are a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010.

The second one is regarding Transgender Civil Servants. These are the people that do the actual work in the government, and are none partisan when it comes to political views. The government wants to force transgender civil servants to use the toilets that don't match the gender that they identify with, so Trans Women to use men's toilets and Trans Men to use Women's toilets.

This can be very distressing for both Trans Men and Women as they can get abuse for this. Not only that it makes predators life easier to go into women's toilets as all they have to say is they are Trans Men. So in effect they are lowing the protections of women as the vast majority of sexual offences are made by cis white men.

This also goes against the Equality Act 2010 as trans people are a protected characteristic.

They know they can't put these into law so now this transphobic Tory government is trying to circumvent parliament by issuing it as "advise" only,

I really hope that next year, when the General Election is on, that we give this government a strong message by voting them out of office.
